Should I Consult a Dermatologist About This Spot? (Possible Melanoma)

6/20/2025, 1:30:30 PMMale25-34

Age: 32, Male In the past, I frequently visited tanning beds, to the extent that for around three years, my skin tone appeared significantly different, almost as if I belonged to another ethnic group. I’m uncertain exactly when this spot developed; however, it surfaced within the last few years, long after I had ceased tanning activities. In the provided images, you will notice that the spot has a slightly raised edge, resembling a less dramatic outline of Florida. I prefer not to incur high expenses for a concern that might seem normal to others.

It's understandable to feel concerned about a new or changing spot on your skin, especially with a history of tanning bed use. Given your description of the spot, particularly its raised edge and the changes over time, it’s prudent to take it seriously. Consulting a dermatologist can be crucial, as they can provide a professional assessment and determine if any further action is needed.

Explanation

Spots or moles that change in appearance, specifically those that become raised, have irregular edges, or vary in color, can sometimes be indicators of skin issues, including melanoma, a type of skin cancer. Your history of frequent tanning bed use increases your risk for skin changes, which makes it advisable to seek professional advice.

Next Steps

  1. Evaluate the Spot: Take note of any changes such as size, color, or texture over the next week.
  2. Document Symptoms: Consider keeping a simple record of your observations about the spot, including any symptoms like itching or bleeding.
  3. Consult a Dermatologist: Look for a local dermatologist to schedule an appointment. Many clinics offer options for skin checks, and some have financial assistance programs or sliding scale fees if costs are a concern.
  4. Avoid Tanning: To protect your skin further, avoid using tanning beds or excessive sun exposure.
  5. Protect Your Skin: Use sunscreen regularly, even on cloudy days, to prevent additional skin damage.

Taking these steps will help ensure that you have peace of mind regarding your skin health. Let me know if you have any further questions or need more information!

Struggling with Eczema and Facial Rosacea - Biologics Proving Ineffective

I really need some assistance! Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for your help. I’m a 26-year-old female who has faced significant skin challenges throughout my life. Having battled eczema since childhood, I’ve seen a marked increase in its severity over the years. In 2019, I was admitted to the ICU due to DRESS syndrome and, despite a prolonged course of prednisone, my skin issues persisted. I have consulted numerous dermatologists and experimented with an alarming array of treatments: Doxycycline, Methotrexate, Dupixent, Rinvoq, Ciclosporin, and Cibinqo. Most of these medications have either had no effect or exacerbated my condition. I did notice some improvement with Rinvoq, but it led to elevated liver enzymes. Dupixent, on the other hand, resulted in large patches of skin flaking off, alongside an overall reddening and purpling of my body. Currently, I’m using Cibinqo, which has offered some relief; however, I still struggle with facial redness and eczema on my upper body. My doctors seem to agree that I've simply been unfortunate, and they feel allergy testing isn't worthwhile. They continue to prescribe various medications, yet I see little to no improvement. For the past 18 months, I've been on different doses of prednisone, and whenever I attempt to lower my dosage below 5mg, I experience widespread rashes. At present, I’m on a 10mg regimen. I’m unsure of what to seek, but I feel overwhelmed and believe my healthcare providers are not acknowledging my concerns. I wonder if there might be an underlying issue causing my lack of response to these treatments. Here are the results from my recent blood tests taken on April 11 that are outside of the normal range: - WBC: 12.8 K/uL - RDW: 14.7% - Platelet Count: 428.0 K/uL - Immature Granulocytes: 0.9% - Neutrophils: 9.06 - Absolute Monocytes: 1.01 K/uL - Absolute Immature Granulocytes: 0.11 K/uL

18-Year-Old Male with New Brown Marks on Hand – Should I Be Concerned?

I’ve recently noticed some new marks on my hand that resemble freckles. They’ve just started appearing, and I believe they may have multiplied. So far, there's only been one that I can recall, but now I’m seeing more. I don't experience any itching or discomfort, and they aren’t raised. I stand at 5'11" and weigh 130 pounds, without any prior medical issues, a family history of skin problems, or use of medications. Additionally, I don’t smoke. Is this something I should be concerned about?
