Should I Seek Medical Help for My Child's Cracked Lip?

7/13/2025, 10:40:16 PMMale25-34

My three-year-old son had a tumble and may have injured the inside of his lip with his own tooth. Although the initial bleeding ceased within a few minutes, he has continued to ooze a bit of blood during his sleep. Currently, we are on holiday in Spain and will be returning home in a day and a half. However, if it is advisable for us to have a medical professional examine him, we are willing to do so. Thank you for your guidance.

It’s understandable to be concerned about your child's injury, especially when there's continued bleeding involved. Based on your description, it’s important to assess the situation to determine the best course of action.

Key Points:

  1. Oozing blood from a lip injury in a young child can be concerning but is often manageable.
  2. Continuous bleeding or signs of infection may require medical evaluation, especially since you're traveling.

Explanation:

When a child injures their lip, it's common for a small amount of blood to occur due to small vessels being damaged. If the bleeding has decreased significantly and is just a small oozing, it may be a sign that the injury is healing. However, if the bleeding persists or increases, or if you notice any unusual signs like swelling, redness, or pus, these could indicate a need for medical attention.

Next Steps:

  1. Monitor the Injury: Keep an eye on the injury. Check for changes in the amount of bleeding. If it worsens or doesn't improve in the next few hours, it might warrant a visit to a local healthcare provider.

  2. Keep the Area Clean: Ensure the lip is kept clean to prevent infection. You can gently rinse the area with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon salt in a cup of warm water) if he can handle it, but avoid any strong mouthwashes.

  3. Pain Management: If he appears to be in pain, you can give appropriate doses of age-appropriate acetaminophen or ibuprofen, following the medication guidelines, but make sure to monitor him closely for any signs of discomfort.

  4. Stay Hydrated: Encourage him to drink fluids, as hydration can help healing.

  5. Consider Local Care: Since you're traveling, if you notice significant changes (like increased bleeding, signs of infection, or if he seems very uncomfortable), consider seeking local medical attention before your trip home.

If things appear stable and the bleeding is minimal, you may be okay to wait until you return home, but trust your instincts as a parent; if something feels off, it's always better to be cautious. Let me know if you have any further questions or need more support.

An Unexpected Drawstring Color Perception

It might sound silly, but bear with me. Just yesterday, I (19 AFAB) caught a glimpse of my pants and noticed my drawstring appeared to be pink. My initial thought was, "That's odd; I don't recall it being that hue, but no big deal. I've had mismatched drawstrings with my sweatpants in the past." I shrugged it off until later on, when I looked again and came to a startling realization—my drawstring was actually white or a very light grey, perfectly matching the color of my pants. There was nothing else I was wearing or holding that could have contributed to the illusion of a pink drawstring. Just to clarify, when I say pink, I'm referring to a shade similar to C25A7C, a deeper, muted reddish-pink, starkly contrasting with the pale grey/white I was actually sporting. What could possibly explain why my drawstring appeared in that color? I apologize if it seems like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. To be honest, I'm at a loss regarding the cause of this peculiar perception. I have a history of anxiety, autism, and ADHD, and while I've experienced some minor hallucinations—typically auditory or tactile in nature—this sensation is different. Occasionally, I do notice a strange pink glow at the lower edge of my vision, but it's a rarity and doesn't manifest in the same way; it fills my entire peripheral view rather than just forming an odd shape in a limited area.

Mystery Bruise on Wrist

I’m a 25-year-old female dealing with a deficiency in vitamin D and currently supplementing daily. I’m also prescribed Adderall XR at a dosage of 20mg. I tend to get bruises that appear without any known cause, but this one is particularly unusual. Could it possibly be a ruptured blood vessel? I’ll share a photo in the comments for reference.

Understanding a Brown Ring on the Penis

At 19 years old, I’ve noticed a persistent brown ring encircling the middle of my penis. Above this ring, the skin appears to have a slightly pink tint compared to the surrounding areas. I'm unable to share a drawing right now as I'm new to this platform, and it seems the option to upload images and videos is currently disabled for me.

Foot Issues Encountered by a 47-Year-Old Male

I’m a 47-year-old male, standing at 6'1" and weighing 320 pounds, living with well-managed type 2 diabetes. My job requires me to be on my feet all day in retail. My footwear initially featured memory foam, but it has started to wear out, leading to inadequate support. Afterward, I added some insoles, which I suspect raised the height too much, resulting in my foot rubbing against the shoe's top. Up until recently, this issue hadn't bothered me; however, a few days ago, I developed a painful sore, possibly due to friction, on my right foot. After showering, I cleaned the abrasion and applied a bandaid before slipping on fresh socks and heading to bed. The following day, I managed to find some Neosporin with pain relief, which I applied as well. Fortunately, there seems to be a bit of improvement, but now I'm noticing a similar irritation forming on my left foot, although it hasn’t reached a painful level yet. Today, on my day off, I opted to stay in socks to avoid making the situation worse. When I did venture out for an hour, I removed the insoles, which seemed to provide some relief. I have a new pair of shoes arriving on Tuesday, but until then, I have to endure a 6-hour shift with my current shoes, which lack adequate cushioning. Regardless, I’d rather experience discomfort from standing than escalate the issues on my feet further.

Is it Safe to Combine Two Antibiotics?

Currently, I’m on amoxicillin for a sinus infection. Recently, I engaged in unprotected intercourse and typically, I would take doxypep (doxycycline) within a 72-hour window to prevent STIs. Given that I’m already on another antibiotic, can I safely take doxypep? If it is permissible, would it be considered excessive or unnecessary? (Note: I’m a 30-year-old male. I also use PrEP for HIV protection and don’t have any other health concerns.)
